My goal is to get to know the world a little better every day. In South America, I have traveled to Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. My current base is Buenos Aires, though travels in Argentina have taken me to Mendoza, Córdoba, Iguazú Falls, Mar del Plata, Peninsula Valdés, Bahía Bustamante, Monte Leon, El Calafate, El Chaltén, and Ushuaia. As long as I can remember I have wanted to come to Argentina, but it wasn't until I spent a year in Ecuador that I truly pursued it. With dual citizenship through my mom, I often write about the contrasts from what I though it would be like here and what it actually is like.
From late August, 2008 to early August, 2009, I lived in Ecuador as a volunteer English teacher. Spending roughly a month in Quito, the majority of my time was spent in the colonial city of Cuenca, a UNESCO World Heritage Site 10 hours south of Quito. High in the Andes mountains, I worked at the University of Cuenca as an English professor. Whenever time permitted I traveled to all corners of the country, visiting among other places, Papallacta, Baños, Puyo, Riobamba, Quilotoa, Loja, Vilcabamba, Guayaquil, Machala, Portoviejo, La Ruta del Sol, Montañita, Zaruma, the Galåpagos Islands, and many trips to regions close to Cuenca.
In 2007, I went abroad long term for the first time, studying in Sevilla, Spain for 5 months. I came to Spain only having studied a semester of basic Spanish, but left as a conversational speaker determined to continue learning the language. It was while studying abroad in Spain that I traveled all over Europe, experiencing as much of the place as I could. Countries visited included Portugal (twice), Italy, France, Morocco, Ireland, The Netherlands, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovak Republic, Switzerland, and Belgium.
